Tiny Volcano--Tiny Volcano (Volcanic Recordings)
Okay...so we know that this isn't exactly a new release, but I don't think we gave it the attention that it deserved when it was first released. Everything about this CD screams big-time. Listen to "When Girls Collide" and tell us how it can't be considered as good as the best of Jellyfish. A big statement, sure, but reinforcement of that statement is provided by "Loaded Gun". Check out the driving melody of "Mary Goes Around" for proof positive that this should be considered a benchmark Power Pop release. Even the CD packaging is damn-near perfect! All we can say is, if you already own this, be good to yourself and listen to it again. And if you don't own this gem, what are you waiting for!?!

WOW!!! Quite simply one of the best releases of 2003 from Scott McPherson’s (ex-Liar’s Club) new outfit. Popbang.com couldn’t have said it any better when they proclaimed "fans of Jellyfish, XTC, Queen, the Beach Boys and Owsley will eat this up like we did!"
Amen brother! Stunning and chock full of shimmering pop complete with monster hooks and soaring harmonies from start to finish!
Nice mix of layered guitars and keyboards. A quintessential "Premier Division" power pop album in every regard!!!! Ray Gianchetti www.koolkatmusik.com

"Scott McPherson and his three bandmates deliver a strong collection of songs on this spectacular debut. While some maintain that melodic pop is a thing of the past, Tiny Volcano is proof positive that those sounds continue to thrive. If Tiny Volcano can deliver on the promise shown here, their future looks (and will sound) very bright." - Gary Glauber/Fufkin.com *read the full review at http://www.fufkin.com/columns/glauber/glauber_rev_12_03.htm
What a great surprise this CD is! Out of nowhere comes Tiny Volcano, whose influences are worn proudly on their sleeves. Fans of Jellyfish (big time), XTC, Queen, The Beach Boys, and Owsley will eat this up just like we did. For sure to be one of the years top 10 CD's! "Loaded Gun" -This track just scratches the surface of the depth this CD holds. Big time excellent stuff! www.PopBang.com
Tiny Volcano is, if you will, the new project of Scott McPherson, the former
head of the Seattle band Liar's Club. What was just developing with Liar's
Club, has now come into full bloom with Tiny Volcano: mature pop songs with
monumental melodies. Scott McPherson has refined and perfected his
songwriting craft. There is nothing too much, nothing too little. - Robert Pally/Swiss Records
"The Tiny Volcano debut cd is truly packed with hook filled songcraft of the
highest order. Replete with lush vocal harmony, these tunes rock hard and
gently lull with a wide variety of instrumentation and feel. Shades of the
Tories and Jellyfish abounding--it won't leave my cd player soon."
-Brian Kassan, Chewy Marble/Ex-Wondermint
Whoa!
It's a total, complete masterpiece! wow. absolutely magical. great songs, perfect production. it sounds like it was recorded in a million dollar studio. magical, magical, magical. - Andrea Perry
I received the record a couple weeks ago, and Im very very much digging on it.
One of the things I like most about it is the huge range of styles you cycle through over the course of the album--I often feel like that's what a full length of my own would sound like, but also often wonder if it could be pulled off. But it sounds to me like you pulled it off with flying colors. The arrangements and production aesthetics are authentic but humble--you gave many nods is many directions, but always with honesty, never just to mimic, and it comes across great. And linking all the songs together is great writing, and if you got that you can't go wrong.
So yeah...enjoying the record. a very nice surprise. - Andy Thompson
Tiny Volcano-S/T: The latest project of Scott McPherson, who used to be one
of the main men of a great Seattle pop band of the '90s, Liar's Club. Tiny
Volcano is less quirky than Liar's Club, but perhaps even more melodic, and
turns the Jellyfish knob up to 11. Really cool stuff! - David Bash
Just got the album and can I add my comments to the good press the album has
had on the Jellyfish-list already. Absolutely superb! One of the best albums I've
heard in ages. I can't imagine anyone who enjoys Jellyfish, Wondermints,
Owsley etc... not loving this. I can't fault it at all, not a filler in
sight and even the instrumentals are class! Can't recommend it highly
enough. Congrats to Scott and the boys on a superb debut.

My jaw just dropped- the self titled track #6, is "REALLY" reminiscent of
the High Llamas. 'Liam Gallagher' is a scream- it really captures their
vibe while you are poking fun at him. The guitar solo is pure Noel! :-)
Wow! - Kevin Collins
Just received your CD today and it's totally flipping
my mind! It's a masterpiece. Really love it!
The song "Tiny Volcano" was an immediate blast (I'm
listening to it for about the 4th time today). .
"Building A Bridge Out Of Water" was a wet dream (pun
intended).
Overall I have to say,
perfect performances, terrific lyrics and stellar
songwriting. Sound quality is top notch. -Kirk Adams
Overall impression: the record is masterfully executed, and you really flex your muscle in terms of both songwriting and performance. Loaded Gun is simply superb. When Girls Collide ... This song is so cool, it must have taken a whiteboard to get the arrangement down on this!
The Tiny Volcano record is something to be very proud of, but you don’t need me to tell you that. - Jayson Jarmon
I gave the TV album a spin at work today -- wow! What
a great, deep collection of tunes. I got a nice
early-70's "Sunflower" vibe from most of the material.
"Building a Bridge (Out of Water)" reminded me of Dave
Gregory's treatment of Partridge's "1000 Umbrellas" --
very nice! - Kerry Kompost
The new Tiny Volcano s/t cd is, without doubt, one of my best purchases of the year. While I hate to use comparisons, the cd combines the best attributes of Andy Partridge , Beach Boys, Beatles and Crowded House... but creating something absolutely stellar and unique. It's also got plenty of guitar crunch and some great witty lyrics to take this cd to another level. It all adds up to as close to a perfect disc as I've heard this year. This one will be in my cd player a lot (until Tiny Volcano volume 2 is released, that is!). --- Jay Dravenstadt
I finally had a chance to listen to the CD (about 4 times now) and
it's everything I thought it would be...excellent! It's nice to hear an
album that's strong from start to finish. I like
the mix of ballads and rockers too. Good work! - Mike Crispo
